Race Report WC 4, Salla - 11 Feb 2018

The sunday in Salla brought sunshine and a blue sky. A very appreciated weather, not only because of the limited visibility yesterday, but also because the days are so short up north. Another thing much appreciated is the cuisine. Reindeer has been on the menu and the Finns are masterful chefs.

Todays podium consisted of Simone Origone on first place, Manuel Kramer on second and Bastien Montes on third. Simone's gamble with the knee operation seems to have worked, so far winning 3 of 4 races, where the first 2 were quite straining on the knees due to the complicated transport to the start.
Manuel Kramer has hit a winning rhythm and is consistently taking high podium places, and is after todays race 40 points before Bastien Montes. Bastien as also placed very good, except for in the second race in Vars, which he will need to compensate for the next races.

Finnish racer Jukka Viitasaari again takes 4'th. A bit dissapointing for him, being on home ground and having 2'nd and 3'rd position in the first two runs of the day. Still Jukka is on a comeback after a long break and he is consistently placing very high!
He will probably be a racer to look out for in Canada.

New Zealands Tawny Wagstaff is still learning S1 but placing a strong top 10 finish.
- Today went well, I aimed for some consistency and managed 3 x 8th placing in 3 runs. Couldnt quite master the bumps before the timing trap. But im happy with the whole weekend overall.
Tawny won the SDH (now S2) race last year in Sun Peaks, so it will be interesting to follow him there.

Michal Bekes from Slovakia dropped from 11'th position on saturdays race to 13'th today, but he has a strong 8'th position in the total, and is currently the best placed of the newer racers (starting S1 last year) in the total World Cup.
